Volkswagen Bolsters T-Cross Lineup with New Engine Options
Volkswagen has announced two new entry-level derivatives for its popular T-Cross SUV, further expanding the model's appeal in the competitive compact SUV segment.
The T-Cross has been a strong seller for the brand, with over 36,000 units sold since its 2019 launch. This success underscores its popularity amongst South African car buyers.
The new additions feature a 1.0-litre TSI engine, offered in two states of tune. A 70kW version is paired with a manual transmission, while an 85kW variant is available exclusively with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. These new engine options aim to provide a compelling blend of performance and efficiency.
The 70kW manual model offers a practical entry point to the T-Cross range. Standard features include an 8-inch Digital Cockpit, App-Connect, a multi-function steering wheel, two USB ports, central locking, air conditioning, hill assist, 16-inch wheels, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Performance figures for this model include a 0-100km/h sprint time of 11.5 seconds, a top speed of 180km/h, and a claimed fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100km.
Stepping up to the 85kW DSG model adds further refinements. This version boasts LED headlights with daytime running lights, LED rear combination lamps, driver and front passenger airbags (with passenger airbag deactivation), power-adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, park distance control, electronic stability control, and a driver attention and drowsiness monitor. Performance is improved, with a 0-100km/h time of 10.2 seconds and a top speed of 193km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.6 litres per 100km.
