Tiguan Range Expands with Potent New Options
Volkswagen South Africa has bolstered its Tiguan range with the introduction of two new engines: a 2.0 TDI with 110kW and a 2.0 TSI with 140kW. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission, enhancing the SUV's performance and appeal in the competitive South African market.
The Tiguan, which has already garnered significant attention, evidenced by its 1,190 unit sales since its August 2024 launch and its nomination as a 2025 Old Mutual Car of the Year finalist, now offers a broader spectrum of choices for discerning buyers. The new engine options are available in the Life and R-Line derivatives, each offering distinct levels of luxury and features.
The Life derivative emphasizes comfort and practicality, featuring ambient lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The R-Line, meanwhile, elevates the Tiguan’s sporty character with sports comfort seats, 30-colour ambient lighting, and 19-inch alloy wheels, alongside a distinctive sporty exterior.
The 2.0 TDI 4Motion delivers 110kW and 340Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. The 2.0 TSI 4Motion, with 140kW and 350Nm, accelerates to 100 km/h in a swift 6.5 seconds. Both engines provide all-wheel drive capabilities, enhancing traction and stability.
The Tiguan’s design, characterized by its unique front end and bold grille, sets it apart in the crowded SUV segment. In terms of rivals, the Tiguan competes with models such as the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA in the South African market, offering a compelling blend of performance, luxury, and practicality.
