Budget carmaker Suzuki currently offers one of the most comprehensive lines of budget cars in South Africa. From their cheap and cheerful S-Presso to the cheeky Swift, there's something for everyone. Local consumers love the dynamic driving characteristics, courtesy of the lightweight construction, peppy engines and slick-shifting gearboxes.
The brand has recently announced new pricing for the entire line-up. At R152 900, the base-model S-Presso, the 1.0 GL, is still the cheapest new car for sale in South Africa. Entry-level it may be, but it still boasts ABS brakes and dual airbags, which are crucial safety features. The price also includes a two-year/30 000 km service plan.
The Celerio, a mite bigger than the baby S-Presso, is just R1 000 more than its sibling, at R153 900 for the base model GA. You don't receive a service plan as standard on the GA, with all other trim levels receiving one as standard.
Next on the list is the popular Swift. We're big fans of the peppy hatchback here at AutoAdvisor, its ability to deliver a fun driving experience and impressive features seemingly unmatched in the budget sector. The GA kicks in at R184 900, and like the cheapest S-Presso, receives the essential safety features. What's more, stability control was made standard across the range when facelifted earlier this year. We'd opt for the GL, for its fine balance between standard features and value for money. This model breaches the R200 000 mark, retailing for R184 900.
The more muscular Swift Sport, arguably the best compromise between performance and value, now sits at R362 900 for the manual and R382 900 for the automatic. The Sport receives a more comprehensive four-year/60 000 km service plan.
