Suzuki Starts 2025 with Record-Breaking Sales in South Africa
Suzuki has kicked off 2025 with a bang, achieving four new sales records in January.
According to Naamsa's official sales report, Suzuki sold a remarkable 6,399 new passenger vehicles, surpassing their previous best of 6,029 units set in November 2024.
This impressive performance places Suzuki second overall in the total vehicle sales by manufacturer rankings for January. The sales breakdown reveals 4,534 units sold through dealerships, exceeding the April 2024 record by 42 units. Fleet, rental, and government sales also contributed significantly, reaching 1,865 units and edging past the November 2024 record by three units.
The star performer for January was the newly launched fourth-generation Swift, with 2,628 units sold. This marks the highest monthly sales figure for the Swift since June 2022, when 1,925 units were sold, and cements its position as the best-selling model in South Africa for the month.
Henno Havenga, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa, expressed his gratitude for the market's response to the new Swift. The hatchback has garnered attention for its updated styling, efficient 1.2L three-cylinder engine, and engaging driving dynamics. Its comprehensive safety features, including six airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, ESP, and ISOFIX anchors, have also contributed to its appeal.
The Swift's success is further underscored by its accolades, including the 2025 RJC Car of the Year award in Japan. It is also a finalist in the 2025 South African Car of the Year competition, the Cars.co.za Consumer Awards, and a contender in the World Car of the Year and World Urban Car categories.
Following the Swift's lead, the Fronx crossover SUV was Suzuki's second best-seller in January with 771 units sold, while the seven-seater Ertiga accounted for 637 sales.
Havenga acknowledged the crucial role of the dealer network in achieving these record-breaking figures and thanked Suzuki's customers for their continued trust in the brand. He emphasized the company's commitment to providing affordable, value-driven vehicles built on Japanese quality.
The January results signal a strong start to the year for Suzuki in the South African market, and the company appears well-positioned to maintain its momentum throughout 2025.
