Porsche Macan Electric SUV confirmed for 2023

It feels like just yesterday when Porsche set the car world off into a frenzy when they launched their electric Porsche Taycan sedan. Now less than a year later, Porsche has taken the wraps off the bigger sibling, the electric Porsche Macan SUV. Confirmed for 2023, the battery-electric Macan will be based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). Now, this may sound familiar as Audi’s electric A6 E-Tron concept has been revealed to be based on the same platform.

Porsche has revealed small details about the electric Macan, for example, it is set to cover more range than the current electric Taycan has a maximum range of around 365kilometers. As to how much range Porsche will squeeze into the electric Macan remains a mystery. Porsche have also further added that they do predict that most of their vehicles will be electric by mid-decade. Those hoping to have a PHEV version will have to look at just the Cayenne as the Macan will not have come in a PHEV version.

The electric Macan will use 800v electrics much like the Taycan. This will mean that the electric Macan will have super-fast charging capabilities. Now not many details have been revealed around the electric Macan but we do hope to get the scoop as it does.

Should You Buy It?

While Porsche hasn't released South African pricing yet, expect the electric Macan to start around R1,800,000 based on current Taycan pricing and international estimates. If you're after the best luxury electric SUV under R2,000,000 in SA and can wait until 2024, the Macan Electric looks like it'll be worth the wait. The combination of Porsche's proven EV tech from the Taycan, better range, and SUV practicality makes this a strong buy for early EV adopters with deep pockets. However, if you need an electric luxury SUV right now, consider the BMW iX3 or wait for more details on pricing and final specifications before making your decision.
