Our test car was fitted with optional 19-inch two-tone wheels (a R42,000 upgrade), which, while stylish, might compromise ride comfort compared to the standard 18-inch setup.
Under the bonnet lies a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine mated to an 8G-DCT gearbox, producing a healthy 140 kW and a substantial 400 Nm of torque. This translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 227 km/h. More importantly, the engine delivers smooth and effortless performance, making overtaking a breeze and highway cruising a relaxed affair. Fuel economy is impressive too, with the GLB 220d achieving around 6.0 L/100km on the open road.

And while the GLB offers plenty of space for passengers and luggage, it's only available as a five-seater, unlike some competitors that offer a seven-seat option.
