The latest GLE AMG generation has landed in South Africa

After much anticipation, the Mercedes-AMG’s performance offering of the latest GLE generation has finally made its way to our local shores. The all-new GLE 63 4MATIC+ and GLE 63 4MATIC+ Coupé is set to cause a frenzy in the mid-size SUV market and given how eye-catching and quick it will be, we do not doubt that.

So, what can we expect from new this mid-size beast? Well for starters it will get a V8 4.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine that features a twin-turbocharging and an electric auxiliary compressor capable of 450kW and 850 Nm of torque. It is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds and will come paired up with the German's ever agile AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission. All power will be delivered to the road through AMG’s 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive. An EQ Boost starter generator will be available to briefly provide an additional 16 kW of output and 250 Nm of torque and will additionally feed the 48 V on-board electrical system.

On the outside, the GLE will get all the AMG family love as it comes equipped with an AMG-specific radiator grille that immediately sets the sporty tone for the GLE. The GLE will ride on large 21-inch light-alloy wheels or 22-inch heels, all coming with AMG lettering. All the side skirts, exterior mirror housings, and flared wheel arches will be painted in the vehicle colour too. The cabin of the GLE 63 will feature a high-quality sports-orientated interior. AMG-specific interior appointments and controls lend the cockpit a hallmark AMG atmosphere and support sporty, precise handling. The latest generation, three-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel with aluminium shift paddles will be included. AMG seats are upholstered in Exclusive Nappa Leather, as a standard and individually adjustable ambient lighting also come as standard, and the second seat row is optionally available with full electric adjustment.

In terms of technology, we can expect the highly innovative operating and display concept MBUX as standard, which will contain numerous AMG-specific content. The widescreen cockpit, instrument cluster and touchscreen multimedia display will be combined as one. It will offer several functions which can all be activated through the intelligent voice-operated control ‘Hey Mercedes’.
