ISUZU launches all-new D-MAX X-RIDER
"In Gqeberha, ISUZU Motors South Africa is introducing the all-new D-MAX X-RIDER, the latest addition to the popular X-RIDER series that has garnered a strong following among South African customers since its debut in 2016. Based on the seventh-generation D-MAX range produced at ISUZU's Struandale plant, the all-new X-RIDER continues to embody the standout character, bold design, and distinctive features that have endeared it to pick-up or bakkie enthusiasts in South Africa.
The X-RIDER initially entered ISUZU's D-MAX line-up as a limited-edition special-value model in 2016, quickly gaining popularity. A year later, it became a standard offering and has remained a top choice for bakkie enthusiasts seeking a capable vehicle with a unique flair. The original X-RIDER was praised for its distinctive design elements and upscale features, and the all-new X-RIDER takes this legacy to new heights.
Kevin Fouche, Department Executive for Product Planning and Programme Management at ISUZU Motors South Africa, says, "The new D-MAX X-RIDER is all about image, style, and capability, making it an excellent choice for discerning customers looking for something special." The X-RIDER is available in mid-range 1.9 Ddi LS models with manual and automatic transmissions in 4x2 form and a 4x4 automatic option for adventurous customers.
The all-new D-MAX X-RIDER boasts an eye-catching exterior design. Its assertive character is evident from the front with a sleek black gloss grille featuring bold red 'ISUZU' lettering, continuing the distinctive theme introduced by the original X-RIDER. X-RIDER badges adorn both the front doors and the tailgate, emphasising its exclusive status, complemented by a black ISUZU tailgate decal. LED headlamps, fog lamps, and taillamps enhance its upscale appearance and visibility.
Stylish black accents on the door handles, B-pillars, side-mirror covers, tailgate handle, and curved sports bar behind the cab enhance the X-RIDER's dynamic aesthetics. Dark grey roof rails serve a practical purpose by accommodating roof racks if needed. The vehicle features sophisticated 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with red 'ISUZU' lettering on black centre caps, providing both style and functionality, including a standard towbar with a 2.1-ton tow rating.
The D-MAX X-RIDER offers a choice of four striking colours: Splash White, Mercury Silver (available from April 2024), Red Spinel, and Islay Gray.
The subtle red accents throughout the cabin highlight the X-RIDER's unique personality. Leather seats feature red contrast stitching and embroidered red 'X' logos on the headrests. PVC leather door trims with red stitching complete the bold interior design. A red divider with the 'X' logo adds to the dynamic ambience, and a leather-wrapped, red-stitched steering wheel features a red ISUZU badge. Additional red accents in the door materials, gearshift boot stitching, and park-brake sheath contribute to a cohesive design, further emphasising the vehicle's distinctiveness. The cabin features dark interior surfaces and a dark headliner, with exclusive X-RIDER floor mats completing the look.
Under the hood, the D-MAX X-RIDER boasts ISUZU's frugal 1.9-liter Ddi engine, known for its fuel efficiency. This intercooled turbodiesel engine delivers 110 kW of power and 350 Nm of torque. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual or automatic transmission for the 4x2 version, while the 4x4 model comes standard with the six-speed automatic.
The X-RIDER maintains the same standards as the rest of the current D-MAX range, offering a maximum wading depth of 800 mm, improved underbody protection, enhanced aerodynamics, and a quick-engaging shift-on-the-fly 4x4 drive system for the 4x4 model.
Safety is a top priority for the X-RIDER, with standard features including airbags, ABS brakes, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BAS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Trailer Sway Control.
The X-RIDER range includes three LS trim-grade models available in a double-cab configuration. These models come equipped with cruise control, a seven-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a six-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi compatibility, and a rear USB port. Rear park assist and a rear-view camera are standard features.
The new X-RIDER focuses on customers seeking a double cab with distinctive looks, refinement, safety features, and unwavering performance. It continues ISUZU's substantial investment in the seventh-generation D-MAX range.
