The folks at Hennessey Performance have built and tuned their 10,000th vehicle, and Hennessey Performance Engineering is commemorating this milestone with the production of a limited production car, the Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang.

The Mustang draws inspiration from the Ford GT Heritage Edition, whilst the Hennessey Mustang’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine has been modified to now produce 602kw at 7,200rpm and 918nm of torque at 4,500rpm. And because of this, the Heritage Edition is capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in 3.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of over 320kph, while a 1/4 mile will take just 10.7 seconds at 213kph.

The Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang is sold as a complete, turnkey vehicle, which includes the base Ford Mustang GT and is available with the factory 6-speed manual transmission or 10-speed automatic transmission, and is only available in factory Race Red with the white livery graphics.

It isn't only specific to the US-market and can be purchased from US$89,950 (ZAR 1.2 million). Sadly, the facelift Ford Mustang on which it's based will only be imported by Ford South Africa in 2019, meaning the Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang will not be available to SA.

FAQ

Q: What does the Hennessey Heritage Edition Ford Mustang cost in South Africa?

The Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang starts at US$89,950 (approximately R1.2 million), but it's not available in South Africa since Ford SA won't import the facelift Mustang until 2019.

Q: How fast is the Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang?

This beast rockets from 0-100kph in just 3.4 seconds thanks to its supercharged 5.0-litre V8 producing 602kW and 918Nm of torque, with a top speed exceeding 320kph.

Q: Is the Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang worth buying?

If you can get your hands on one overseas, absolutely, as it's a limited production milestone car with serious performance credentials and turnkey reliability from Hennessey's proven track record.

Q: What makes the Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang special?

It commemorates Hennessey's 10,000th tuned vehicle with exclusive Race Red paint, white heritage graphics inspired by the Ford GT, and a completely rebuilt supercharged engine package.

Q: Can you buy a Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang in South Africa?

Unfortunately no, since Ford South Africa won't be importing the facelift Mustang platform until 2019, making this limited edition Heritage model unavailable locally.

Should You Buy It?

The Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang at R1.2 million is an absolute weapon that unfortunately South Africans can't actually buy locally. If you're shopping for serious American muscle in SA, you're better off waiting for the standard facelift Mustang GT to arrive in 2019, which will likely cost around R800,000 to R900,000. For those with deep pockets and overseas connections, this limited edition Heritage model is absolutely worth the premium as a collector's piece with genuine supercar performance. The combination of 602kW, heritage racing livery, and Hennessey's milestone significance makes it a future classic, but for the average SA petrolhead, it's more of a dream garage addition than a realistic purchase option.
