Volvo goes electric with its all-new C40 Recharge
It seems that an electric future is upon us and Volvo wants in. The Swedish manufactures recently unveiled their all-new C40 Recharge, making this Volvo’s first fully electric vehicle. The C40 Recharge will be based on the CMA vehicle platform and will come in an SUV design. The C40 Recharge will be the first of many as Volvo plans to roll out at least several additional electric models in coming years. Volvo hopes to have electric cars make up 50 percent of its global sales by 2025 and all its sales by 2030.
The C40 Recharge will get twin electric motors, with one located in the front and the other at the rear. It will be powered by a 78kWh battery that can charge up to 80 percent in just 40 minutes. Volvo has claimed that the C40 Recharge will offer an anticipated range of around 420 km and will gradually improve over time through over-the-air software updates.
The C40 Recharge’s front will be completely brand new and will be the first face of Volvo’s fully electric vehicle range. It will come with headlights that will feature state-of-the-art pixel-technology. While the rear gets a striking rear-end design that will match its lower roofline. The cabin’s seats will be in a higher position and will come available with a range of colour and decor options. The C40 Recharge will also be the first Volvo model to be completely leather-free.
In terms of technology, the C40 Recharge’s infotainment system was developed in collaboration with Google, meaning that it will use an Android operating system. Consumers will have access to Google apps and built-in services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store. The C40 Recharge will get unlimited data which will allow the vehicle to always get excellent connectivity. In doing so, the C40 Recharge will receive software updates over the air meaning that the vehicle will stay get improved even after it has left the factory.
Volvo has announced that the C40 Recharge will only be available online. This new strategy will mark a new era in how consumers purchase Volvo vehicles, making it both convenient and hassle-free. The C40 Recharge will come standard with a warranty, roadside assistance, insurance, services, and home charging options. Volvo has scheduled the C40 Recharge to go into production in the fall of this year.
