Adored by South Africans, the Toyota Fortuner is most certainly one of the most popular SUVs on local roads. A combination of value-for-money, rugged reliability and off-roading capabilities have cemented its reputation. What's more, there's space for seven and all the luxuries you would ever need. What more could you want?
Well, Toyota has enhanced the large SUV, bestowing specification updates on the recently facelifted seven seater.
Models fitted with the 2.8-litre engine now receive dual-zone climate control, while the top of the range VX derivatives gain a panoramic view monitor (with selectable view) and a premium JBL sound system with 11 speakers. Toyota has deleted the on-board satellite navigation, noting the "preferred usage of smartphone apps via the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality."
But it's not just the luxury that has been further enhanced. All models now ship standard with an enhanced Smart Entry system which now has additional security measures, says Toyota.
VX models also receive a reworked Toyota Safety Sense system. Now, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert form part of the safety suite.
The 2.4 GD-6 and 2.8 GD-6 engines remain unchanged, the smaller capacity turbodiesel producing 110 kW and 400 Nm of torque. This engine is available in both six-speed manual and automatic options. The more powerful 2.8-litre (150 kW and 500 Nm) is only available with the auto 'box.
