Supra Unleashes 320 kW in Final Edition, Still No S58
Toyota Gazoo Racing is giving the current-generation Supra a roaring send-off with the "A90 Final Edition," a limited-production model that dials up the performance intensity.
While it's not the full-blown GRMN variant many enthusiasts craved, it still packs a punch. The 3.0-litre inline-six engine now delivers a potent 320 kW and 570 Nm of torque, a significant 47 kW jump over the standard Supra.
This power increase is achieved through a series of enhancements, including revisions to the intake air path, a new low-back-pressure catalyst, and optimized engine control. The result is a Supra that is quicker and more responsive than ever before.
Sadly, BMW's formidable S58 engine remains off the table, leaving some enthusiasts disappointed. However, the Final Edition receives a host of other upgrades to enhance its track prowess. Larger Brembo brakes provide increased stopping power, essential for late braking and confident corner entry.
An adjustable KW suspension system, borrowed from motorsport, allows drivers to fine-tune the car's handling characteristics to suit their preferences and driving style. This suspension upgrade, combined with increased body rigidity, promises sharper turn-in and improved stability through corners.
An Akrapovič exhaust system adds a thrilling auditory dimension to the driving experience, amplifying the engine's sonorous character. This is not just about sound; the titanium construction of the exhaust also contributes to a reduction in weight, further enhancing the Supra's performance.
Wider Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, wrapped around 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, further improve grip and responsiveness. These tires are specifically designed for high-performance driving, providing exceptional levels of adhesion and feedback.
Aerodynamic enhancements, including a prominent rear wing, contribute to high-speed stability, generating downforce to keep the Supra planted through fast corners.
Inside, carbon fiber Recaro bucket seats hold occupants firmly in place, ensuring they remain comfortable and supported during spirited driving. The extensive use of Alcantara throughout the cabin adds a touch of luxury and sportiness.
Alongside the Final Edition, Toyota is also releasing an upgraded version of the standard Supra 3.0. This model receives its own set of performance enhancements, including larger Brembo brakes, a retuned suspension, and increased body rigidity. These upgrades aim to provide a more engaging and rewarding driving experience, even for those who opt for the standard model.
With production capped at just 300 units globally, the A90 Final Edition is destined to be a sought-after collector's item.
While it may not be the GRMN Supra we hoped for, it nonetheless represents a fitting farewell to the current generation, showcasing the car's performance potential and leaving enthusiasts eager for what the future holds for the Supra lineage.
This final hurrah demonstrates Toyota's commitment to continuous improvement and its dedication to delivering exciting and capable sports cars.
