New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport available in South Africa

Since Mitsubishi first introduced the Pajero derivatives in 2006, it has sold over 3.3 million units worldwide. The Pajero has also left an ever-lasting legacy in the Dakar Rally becoming one of the most successful vehicles in the competition, with no fewer than 12 wins, including seven consecutive victories. In fact, in 2019, the all-new Pajero Sport was named as one of the finalists in the South African Car of the Year competition.

Mitsubishi has now finally launched the latest version of the new Pajero Sport and yes, it does come with a whole lot of new features including a new Dynamic Shield front grille, as well as other additional luxuries. There is also no denying that the new Pajero Sport might be the most stylish and luxurious from the range, even being called the new “Boss of the Mitsubishi Stable”.

Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa stated, “It is important to note that Mitsubishi Motors is taking a new direction, focusing on growing market segments – and the new Pajero Sport certainly leads the way for our future.”

On the exterior, is a new Dynamic Shield front grille which is particularly more visually striking and creates a more modern look for the Pajero Sport. This Dynamic Shield front grille will come standard with LED headlamps, daytime running lights, and fog lamps. The Pajero Sport will also ride on 18-inch alloy wheels and repositioned side steps.  The Pajero Sport will also feature two new colours - White Diamond and Graphite Grey.

All the new Pajero Sport derivatives will be powered by a 2.4L MIVEC Turbo Diesel engine that produces a powerful 133 kW with a torque of 430 Nm. It will be powered through Mitsubishi’s advanced 8-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the Pajero Sport range gets an improvement on its existing luxury features, including tilt and telescopic adjustments for the steering column, as well as a multi-function leather steering wheel with audio and cruise control settings. It also offers Bluetooth with hands-free voice control. This is of course linked to Mitsubishi’s advanced smartphone-link display audio (SDA) which is connected to a large 8-inch touch screen. All models will now also have additional USB and accessory sockets (dual USB for the rear passengers), as well as a 220AC 150-Watt power plug with full leather throughout the interior.

In terms of comfort, there is automatic dual-zone air-conditioning throughout the 7-seater cabin, including rear passenger controls, and electric windows. It also comes with a new 8-inch colour LCD cluster that offers different display options and settings. To top this off, the new range also has an 8-inch smart link display with Apple Car Play and Android Auto for your smartphone, as well as an electric parking brake with auto-hold function.

If you want more features and just a bit more luxury than the rest of the Pajero Sport range, then the Pajero Sport Exceed might be just for you. The Pajero Sport Exceed is on top of the range and does boast several new and exclusive features such as a remote control and Mitsubishi App system for its new electric tailgate with hands-free access, it also includes ‘kick points’ to open the rear door, as well as an electric tilt and sliding electric sunroof. Since the Pajero Sport Exceed is 4x4, it will also be paired with Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system which delivers performance in the most challenging driving conditions and rugged terrain.

When it comes to safety the Pajero Sport will be packed with the same safety features owners have become accustomed to from a Mitsubishi. This will include 7 airbags as well as ISOFIX child seat anchors. It also has Active safety features which will be found in all models and will include active stability and traction control (ASTC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and an emergency brake assist system (BAS).
