Lexus GX 550: Full Pricing and Specifications Revealed
The Lexus GX 550 is set to make its highly anticipated South African debut in March 2025, marking the introduction of this robust luxury SUV to the local market.
Powering all variants of the GX 550 is a 3.4-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine, a notable departure from the diesel-centric offerings of its sibling, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. This engine delivers 260 kW of power and 650 Nm of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system. This powertrain setup positions the GX 550 as a performance-oriented luxury SUV, capable of handling both on-road and off-road conditions.
The South African lineup comprises four distinct models: the GX 550 Overtrail, the GX 550 Overtrail Bi-Tone, the GX 550 SE, and the GX 550 Overtrail Off-Road. The base model, the GX 550 Overtrail, is priced at R1,766,000, while the two-tone Overtrail Bi-Tone variant comes in at R1,776,000. These models offer a five-seat configuration and are equipped with a range of standard features, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a multi-terrain monitor, and Lexus's e-KDSS suspension system, enhancing both comfort and off-road capability.
The GX 550 SE, priced at R1,829,000, caters to those seeking a more luxurious experience. This seven-seater model includes premium features such as a 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, semi-aniline leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, and automatically deploying side steps. The SE variant is designed to provide a refined and comfortable ride, making it ideal for long journeys and daily commutes.
For off-road enthusiasts, the GX 550 Overtrail Off-Road, priced at R1,867,000, will be available at a later date. This model will feature specialized off-road equipment, including additional underbody protection, off-road side steps, and a roof rack, further enhancing its off-road capabilities. All Overtrail models are equipped with a rear differential lock, multi-terrain select system, and crawl control, ensuring optimal performance in challenging terrains.
Colour options for the GX 550 include White Quartz, Sonic Titanium, Titanium Carbide Grey, Graphite Black, and Mercury Grey, with the latter being exclusive to the SE model. The bi-tone Overtrail models offer Sonic Titanium, Titanium Carbide Grey, and Desert Moonlight, paired with a black roof.
All Lexus GX 550 models will come with a 7-year/100,000 km warranty and maintenance plan, providing peace of mind to buyers. Positioned between the RX and LX models in Lexus’s South African lineup, the GX 550 aims to offer a compelling blend of luxury, performance, and off-road capability.
