The latest Jaguar E-PACE has landed in SA

Jaguar’s smallest SUV, the E-PACE, has gotten an all-new update. Featuring a refreshed exterior, the latest Pivi Pro infotainment, and a variety of powerful and efficient engines, the E-PACE looks to become a more attractive option for buyers. On the exterior side, new all-LED headlights that feature ‘Double J’ Daytime Running Light (DRL) signatures will come standard. Pixel LED technology will be available as an option too, delivering increased resolution and brightness. The front will feature a new mesh grille with diamond detailing, the Jaguar heritage logo, and a contemporary Noble Chrome finish. The side vents will feature Jaguar iconic Leaper emblem on it too.

The rear bumper will feature a mesh insert that will sit somewhere between the standard petrol engine tailpipes. All models no matter the engine will get new slim horizontal blade finishers. The all-LED rear lights have been inspired be the all-electric I-PACE and will feature Jaguar’s chicane graphic. The R-Dynamic trim on the new E-PACE will be more performance orientated, while the Black Exterior Pack will deliver a more dynamic appearance as its bespoke elements all get finished in Narvik Black.

Inside, the latest E-PACE will get an all-new integrated 11.4-inch curved-glass HD touchscreen at the centre of the dashboard. This will be used to control Jaguar’s new Pivi Pro infotainment system. The glass screen will feature two coatings, one that is anti-glare and the second that resists fingerprints. The new Pivi Pro infotainment system will come with Google and Microsoft Outlook calendar integration, allowing the driver to view work diaries and even join important calls or meetings. A new 12.3-inch HD Interactive Driver Display with enhanced graphics will further complement the 11-inch screen. It will feature a configurable layout that will show a full-screen navigation map that has turn-by-turn instructions, digital dials, media, contact list or infotainment details.

The driver touchpoints around the cluster have now been wrapped in soft-touch materials. The driver-focused interior will further feature a new Drive Selector that has a 15W wireless device charger. The latest Drive Selector is now lower and wider than before and features an upper section finished with ‘cricket-ball’ stitching. Metallic speaker accents and metallic vent finishes further complement this luxurious interior, as well as an I-PACE, influenced steering wheel. The headrests will feature an embossed Jaguar Leaper while the upholstery gets ‘Est.1935 Jaguar Coventry’ tags that reference the brand's long rich heritage.

As for engine options, an advanced 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine has made its way to the latest E-PACE family and will be available with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology. It sheds about 33kg of weight, making it light on the road, Jaguar claims it to be more efficient as well as provide better fuel consumption. The P300e PHEV powertrain will combine the 147kW 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine and an 80kW Electric Rear Axle Drive motor, delivering a combined power output of 227kW and 540Nm of torque. It’s claimed to have sprinted from 0-100 in 6.5 seconds.

Also available on the E-PACE will be the next generation 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel and the latest 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engines. The D200, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel variant will produce 147kW of power and 430Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol counterpart on the other hand will get two power outputs. The P250 will produce 184kW and 365Nm of torque. The more powerful P300 on the other hand will produce 221kW and 400Nm of torque. The P300 will also get a range-topping SPORT edition, which Jaguar claims to do 0-100km/h in just 6.9 seconds. All engines will get paired with AWD and nine-speed automatic transmissions.

The latest Jaguar E-PACE starts from around R750,000 for the base model, with higher trim levels and the R-Dynamic variant pushing prices well over R900,000 depending on your spec choices.

Q: Is the Jaguar E-PACE worth buying in 2024?

The refreshed E-PACE is definitely worth considering if you want a compact luxury SUV with proper British style, especially with the new Pivi Pro infotainment and updated LED lighting, but you'll pay a premium compared to German rivals.

Q: What engine options are available in the new Jaguar E-PACE?

Jaguar offers a range of turbocharged petrol engines in the E-PACE, including efficient four-cylinder units and more powerful options for the R-Dynamic models, all delivering a good balance of performance and fuel economy.

Q: How does the Jaguar E-PACE compare to the BMW X1 and Audi Q3?

The E-PACE offers more distinctive styling and British luxury character than its German competitors, but the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 typically offer better reliability records and more competitive pricing in the South African market.

Q: What are the best features of the updated Jaguar E-PACE?

The standout features include the new 11.4-inch curved touchscreen with Pivi Pro infotainment, the distinctive Double J LED headlights, and the I-PACE inspired rear lights that give it a properly modern Jaguar look.

Should You Buy It?

The refreshed Jaguar E-PACE is a solid choice if you want a distinctive compact luxury SUV that stands out from the usual German suspects. Starting at around R750,000, it's not the cheapest option in the premium compact SUV segment, but the updated tech, striking new looks, and that unmistakable Jaguar character make it worth the premium. The new Pivi Pro system finally brings Jaguar's infotainment up to modern standards, while the LED lighting updates give it a genuinely contemporary appearance. However, if budget is your main concern, the BMW X1 or Audi Q3 might offer better value for money. For buyers who prioritise style and British luxury over pure practicality, the E-PACE delivers the goods, just be prepared to pay extra for servicing and parts compared to its German rivals.
