6 things you need to know about the Hyundai i20 N-Line

It’s all about the show. Take a normal hatchback and add some sportier bumpers, larger wheels

and gloss balc elements, give it a cool name and the buying public can't get enough of it. Take

the Volkswagen Polo R-Line for example. It’s a regular Polo wearing activewear and it is the one

people want. Other manufacturers have followed suit, Hyundai has given its i20 some N-line

treatment.

What is N-Line?

The Hyundai i20 N Line combines exterior and interior design elements inspired by Hyundai's

high-performance N range with comprehensive connectivity and safety technology shared

throughout the i20 range.

Design

Compared to its predecessor, the all-new Hyundai i20's proportions have been made more

dynamic, while at the same time ensuring it is practical for navigating around busy urban areas.

Its visual stance is improved by its lowered roof (-24mm), wider body (+30mm) and increased

length (+5mm), while the wheelbase has also been increased by +10mm.

Exterior design changes for Hyundai i20 N Line begin with a dedicated front bumper with a grey

character line and black cascading grille equipped with the N Line badge.

Bespoke 17" alloy wheels, side skirts and privacy glass change the side profile, while a

redesigned rear bumper housing the signature N triangular rear fog lamp and dual exhaust

muffler completes the sporty look.

Interior design

Interior changes include red accents to the door trims, heating and ventilation controls, as well

as red stitching to the N branded seats. A leather N branded steering wheel and gear lever

feature as standard, as does a black headlining.

Technology

The all-new i20 offers connectivity with a range of high-tech convenience features and premium

sound quality. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, now offered with a wireless link, enable

customers to mirror the functionality of their iOS and Android smartphones.

To increase the elegance and the visual comfort of the interior, the new 10.25-inch digital

instrument cluster in front of the driver and high-resolution 8-inch centre touchscreen for the

infotainment system have been visually combined. This paddle design makes the interior stand

out, while the touchscreen offers customers multiple functions for the sound and infotainment

system.

Under the bonnet

All Hyundai i20 N Line models are powered by a 1.0 turbocharged GDi engine which provides

90kW. Customers are offered the choice of two transmissions, an intelligent 6 speed manual

(iMT) that features an electronically controlled clutch to decouple the transmission from the

engine under certain driving conditions to enhance efficiency, or a 7 speed dual clutch

transmission which combines optimum fuel consumption and automatically controlled gear

changes.

The 1.0 T-GDi is equipped with Hyundai’s Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD)

technology. CVVD optimises engine performance and fuel efficiency while also being

eco-friendly. The valve control technology regulates the duration of the valve opening and

closing according to driving conditions. This is the only system that can change the duration of

the valve opening during a ride, depending on conditions.

The drive

The i20 remains a fun-to-drive hatchback and while the N-Line treatment is more visual, it does

add a sporty character to the hatchback which offers an already sporty driving experience. The

Hyundai i20 N-line is well worth your consideration within this segment.
