GWM P Series Pickup
GWM latest pickup looks a worthy rival to the Hilux and the Ranger
Set to arrive in South Africa before the end of 2020 is GWM South Africa's new Hilux/Ranger rival.
It's presently known as the P Series pickup, although, news emanating from 'Down Under', suggests it will be called the POER, which apparently combines the words “power, peak, and perfection”.
It is big too, as it rides on the P71 ladder-frame platform, which it shares with the Haval H9 large SUV. In terms of dimensions, its length, width, and height sits at 5410mm, 1934mm and 1886mm respectively, while the wheelbase measures in at 3230mm. Under the hood is said to be a turbocharged 2.0T petrol motor producing 140kw and 360nm, whilst being mated with a ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission.
GWM has also equipped the P Series with 3 differential locks, which should theoretically give it unrivaled off-road ability in its segment. However, GWM did not disclose as to whether the 3 differential locks setup will be standard fitment or optional, as part of a dedicated off-road package.
Expect pricing and final specification to be announced in the coming months.
