BMW M Heritage Edition Celebrates 47-Years of Sideways

With the current BMW M4 getting closer and closer to the end of its life cycle, BMW has decided to use it as the base of their latest special edition model, the M Heritage Edition, which will be limited to just 750 examples across the world, with 10 of them headed to South Africa.

The BMW M4 M Heritage Edition is based on the M4 Competition Package, featuring a twin-turbocharged straight-six 3.0-litre engine, sending 331kW of power and 550Nm of torque to the rear wheels. The Competition Pack takes performance a step ahead with the addition of a revised suspension, differential and stability control. The special edition will be available exclusively in coupe guise, with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed Dual Clutch transmission.

The special edition M4 also incorporates a host of exclusive touches all around the car. For starters, there are only three exterior colours available on the M Heritage Edition; Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue and Imola Red. Avid BMW enthusiasts will know that these are also the three signature M colours. The carbon fibre reinforced plastic roof features an exclusive M colour stripe running across the length and there is also a set of grey 20-inch Competition Pack wheels that are standard across the range.

Inside, the M Heritage Edition features lightweight M Sport seats with custom detailing based on the exterior colour. The Laguna Seca Blue model features silver and black with turquoise stitching, the Velvet Blue model with silver and black with blue stitching and the Imola Red model with red and black with red stitching. The interior carbon fibre trim also incorporates the M colours in its design, while the seat headrests and doorsills feature the special edition logos.

FAQ

Q: What does the BMW M4 M Heritage Edition cost in South Africa?

BMW South Africa hasn't released official pricing yet, but expect the M4 M Heritage Edition to start around R1,800,000 given the standard M4 Competition sits at approximately R1,650,000 and this limited edition packs exclusive touches and rarity value.

Q: How many BMW M4 M Heritage Edition models are coming to South Africa?

Only 10 units of the M4 M Heritage Edition will make it to South African shores out of the global production run of just 750 examples worldwide, making it properly exclusive.

Q: What colours are available for the BMW M4 M Heritage Edition?

The M Heritage Edition is available in three signature M colours only: Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue, and Imola Red, each with matching interior stitching and custom seat detailing.

Q: Is the BMW M4 M Heritage Edition worth buying over a regular M4?

If you've got the extra R150,000 and want something genuinely rare, absolutely, but the regular M4 Competition delivers the same 331kW performance for significantly less cash.

Q: What makes the BMW M4 M Heritage Edition special compared to the standard model?

The Heritage Edition gets exclusive M-striped carbon roof, custom interior stitching, special badging, limited colour options, and most importantly, global exclusivity with only 750 units ever made.

Should You Buy It?

The BMW M4 M Heritage Edition is a yes if you're a serious collector with deep pockets, but a maybe for everyone else. At an estimated R1,800,000, you're paying a hefty premium over the standard M4 Competition's R1,650,000 for essentially the same 331kW straight-six engine and performance. The exclusivity factor is undeniable though, with only 10 units coming to SA out of 750 worldwide. The best high-performance BMW under R2,000,000 in SA is still the regular M4 Competition at R1,650,000, which gives you 95% of the Heritage Edition's thrills for R150,000 less. Buy the Heritage Edition if you want bragging rights and investment potential, stick with the standard M4 Competition if you just want to go sideways without the collector car premium.
