Alfa Romeo Tonale Wins 2024 Green SUV Award
The Alfa Romeo Tonale has been honoured with the prestigious 2024 Green SUV of the Year™ by Green Car Journal magazine. This marks a significant achievement for Alfa Romeo, as the Tonale is their first C-SUV, featuring Plug-In Hybrid technology and standard Q4 all-wheel-drive for optimal traction and safety. The Tonale received praise from Green Car Journal editors for its Italian design, dynamic driving experience, practicality, and advanced interior technology.
According to Ron Cogan, the editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com, "Alfa Romeo's Tonale offers an exciting and sporty way of driving an electric vehicle. For the first 49 miles, you drive a stylish and iconic Italian electric vehicle with zero emissions. Beyond that, if the day's needs call for going further, the Plug-In Q4 hybrid powertrain has an overall driving range of more than 372 miles, providing a fulfilling journey without worrying about needing a charge."
Notably, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is the most efficient Plug-In Hybrid Q4 C-SUV in its category. Its advanced powertrain system combines a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission for front-wheel traction. In electric mode, a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery powers an electric motor with 90 kW of peak power and 250 Nm of torque, resulting in a class-leading total output of 280 horsepower.
Larry Dominique, SVP and head of Alfa Romeo North America emphasised, "With best-in-class horsepower of 285 and a fully electric range of more than 49 miles, the Tonale is a perfect example of how Alfa Romeo combines efficiency with the brand's characteristic sporty character. It represents just the beginning of Alfa Romeo's journey into electrification while preserving the distinctive Italian DNA and style beloved by our customers."
